FAQs, Fees, & Insurance for Virtual Therapy

Health is wealth.

An investment in yourself.

Traditional therapy often operates on assembly-line timelines, leaving you feeling like a checkbox in a high-volume system. We believe deep, relational transformation requires an unhurried, intentional space. By choosing an independent investment structure, our clinical work remains dictated by your actual healing trajectory, not a corporate insurance algorithm.

Specialized therapy that slows down, goes deeper, and stays focused entirely on your goals.

ALL PARTS OF YOU ARE WELCOME HERE:

Understanding Your Financial Options

Navigating healthcare logistics can feel confusing and overwhelming. We believe in absolute transparency up front, so you can make informed decisions about your care with total confidence. If you review these paths and feel unsure which option applies to your situation, please reach out to our team—we are here to help you gain clarity.

We operate on a hybrid model. We participate with a select, curated list of insurance panels, while also welcoming out-of-network and self-pay clients. However, because insurance corporations regularly renegotiate provider contracts and increasingly use AI clinical auditing tools that intrude on the deep privacy of your confidential therapy sessions, we continuously evaluate these relationships. To protect the absolute integrity and confidentiality of your care, we reserve the right to transition away from specific insurance panels. Should a panel change ever occur, our team will provide seamless support to transition your billing format smoothly without causing any disruption to your ongoing care or session rhythm.

Even if you have insurance, you are not required to use insurance for therapy services.

  • Self-Pay (Private or Direct Pay): You pay directly for your care at the time of service. This path ensures maximum clinical privacy, complete freedom over your session frequency, and protects your records from corporate oversight.

  • Out-of-Network (OON) Reimbursement: You pay for your session up front, and our practice provides you with a specialized clinical document called a "Superbill." We help you submit this to your insurance carrier to seek partial or full reimbursement using your plan’s out-of-network mental health benefits. This is an indirect form of using insurance, if your plan has an out-of-network benefit.

  • In-Network Insurance: Your care is funded directly through your specific insurance carrier. The insurer sets strict parameters regarding session length, frequency, and dictates a mandatory mental health diagnosis code that permanently attaches to your medical record. This is a direct way to use insurance, and this way comes with the most restrictions.

Practice Rates & The Out-of-Network Benefit

We operate intentionally as a hybrid practice—participating with a selective, curated list of insurance panels while remaining fully accessible to out-of-network and self-pay clients.

We don't believe elite care should be gatekept by your zip code, nor do we participate in traditional sliding scales that create arbitrary, inherently inequitable tiers of access. Instead, our private-pay rate is structurally balanced as a fair, unified average of out-of-pocket costs across our five licensed states—ensuring clients in shifting regional economies get the exact same uncompromised clinical mastery as those in major metropolitan hubs. Furthermore, our fees remain identical for both individuals and couples because we firmly believe you are paying for the practitioner's dedicated time, presence, and focus—not an escalating surcharge based on the number of people in the room.

Therapy is deliberate, stabilized investment in your longterm health.

Our Fees (if not using in-network insurance or before out-of-network reimbursement):

  • Individual Sessions: $180 per 53-minute clinical hour.

  • Couples Sessions: $180 per 53-minute clinical hour.

Why Full-Fee Care Benefits Your Healing

Choosing a full-fee, independent practice model is an intentional investment in the quality of your therapeutic experience. Because our clinical team does not carry exhausting, high-volume insurance caseloads, your therapist possesses the emotional bandwidth, deep energy reserves, and dedicated focus required to hold steady space for your complex goals. This framework allows us to integrate advanced, depth-oriented existential and somatic methodologies that traditional insurance models frequently refuse to cover. You are not a diagnosis code to be processed; you are a whole human navigating a profound life transition.

A Note on Utilizing Insurance Plans

While we respect the necessity of financial accessibility, it is important to understand the hidden clinical costs of insurance-led therapy. To authorize care, insurance corporations require our team to diagnose you with a formal mental health disorder. They reserve the right to audit our private clinical notes, restrict your session counts, and disrupt your treatment rhythm mid-process.

To give you the best of both worlds, The Center for Identity & Sex Therapy operates as an Out-of-Network provider. If you have PPO insurance, you can often recoup 50% to 80% of your session costs. We can help your verify this.

Federal Compliance & The Good Faith Estimate

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act and the federal No Surprises Act, health care providers are required to give clients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the total expected cost of your non-emergency healthcare services. This includes your anticipated weekly or monthly therapy sessions. Our practice guarantees total transparency: you will receive this estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your first intake session. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the federal right to dispute the bill.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call our administrative operations desk.

Quick Answers:

Q: Do you accept my health insurance directly?
A: Yes, we operate on a hybrid model. We participate with a select, curated list of insurance panels, while also welcoming out-of-network and self-pay clients. However, because insurance corporations regularly renegotiate provider contracts and increasingly use AI clinical auditing tools that intrude on the deep privacy of your private therapy sessions, we continuously evaluate these relationships. To protect the absolute integrity and confidentiality of your care, we reserve the right to transition away from specific insurance panels. Should a panel change ever occur, our team will provide seamless support to transition your billing format smoothly without causing any disruption to your ongoing care or session rhythm.

Q: Can I get reimbursed by my insurance company if you are out-of-network for my plan?
A: Yes, if you have out-of-network benefits (typically found in PPO plans). If we do not participate with your specific carrier, we provide you with an automated monthly medical invoice called a Superbill. You submit this directly to your insurance company to recoup a significant portion—often 50% to 80%—of your session costs. We have tools to estimate in advance what your specific cost will be.

Q: Can I use my HSA or FSA card to pay for therapy?
A: Yes. Pre-tax Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) completely cover specialized existential sex therapy, somatic healing, and trauma counseling exactly like traditional medical expenses, regardless of whether you use insurance or self-pay.

Q: I am traveling out of town—can we still hold our virtual session?
A: Yes, provided you are physically located within our licensed states. Our secure telehealth network legally covers you anywhere across New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Florida.

Take Your Next Step

Invest in care that rejects sterile checklists and supports lasting, deep personal victory.

You do not have to settle for the passive endurance of mere survival. Investing in specialized, independent care is a radical declaration that your identity, your intimacy, and your relationships deserve an unhurried, expert space to heal. Let’s move past the rigid scripts and step cleanly into your next chapter.

HISTORY SHAPED THE RULES.

YOU CHOOSE THE HEALING.

Hello,

You can find your way back yourself, even after everything changes. You are not broken. You are becoming. Every part of you is welcome here.

I founded this practice to walk with people through the "in-between"—those profound moments when a shift in your identity, sexuality, body, or relationships means you cannot go back to how things used to feel. We specialize in that exact space where your language hasn't yet caught up to your experience, but you know you have fundamentally changed.

As a feminist healthcare provider, I believe your sexuality is entirely inseparable from your identity. This mission is to help you reclaim the parts of yourself that have been silenced, shamed, or left behind by life transitions, illness, trauma, and cultural expectations.

I built this practice to offer rare, expert-level care rooted in the exact AASECT-certified sex therapy standards and clinical social work principles I have practiced throughout my career. Using my signature ALIGN Framework and my EMPOWER Your Sexual Health® curriculum, the practice combines evidence-based sex therapy with somatic, humanistic, and meaning-centered approaches to reconnect you with your desire, identity, and sense of self.

The practice’s style is warm, collaborative, and thoughtfully direct. Let’s make space for the complexity of your experience and build a life that feels aligned, embodied, and authentically your own.

Warmly,

Genevieve Gellert, MSW, LCSW, CST (she/her)
Founder, The Center for Identity and Sex Therapy

Why work with an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist?

You could talk about your sexuality with a general therapist. A lot of people try.

But many clients tell us: They’ve spent months—or even years—in therapy… and still feel stuck.

Because not all therapists are trained to go there.

At The Center for Identity & Sex Therapy, we view intimacy through an identity-informed, relational lens. This AASECT-certified practice explores how attachment, culture, religion, body image, and life transitions shape how you love and connect.

True healing requires looking through a historical lens to address the systemic narratives that cage the physical body.

Clinical Framework:

  • Specialized Certification: Advanced AASECT credentials to navigate highly sensitive conversations safely.

  • Elite Foundation: Grounded directly in Ivy League social work training.

  • Meaning-Centered Depth: Rooted in Viktor Frankl’s logotherapy to address the underlying psychology of despair and learned helplessness.

  • Systemic Justice: Viewing specialized sex therapy not just as clinical treatment, but as an essential act of social justice.

We exist to help adults break cycles of trauma, shatter societal taboos, reclaim absolute control over their bodies, and safely reconstruct their humanity.
